Query Contest Update

Last night I checked, and I have 671 contest entries!

Unfortunately the auto responder is still broken, and if I’m going to respond individually to all of them, I might as well read them first!

So I’m starting in on them. I've even responded to a few already--I've even already requested one. I’ll keep posting updates as I read, and when I finish, I’ll let everyone know so that if somehow your query got missed, we’ll find it.

And for everyone who missed the contest, I’m sure I can be persuaded to do it again!

Thanks for the update! And thanks again for having the contest. :)

These contests RULE. I don't know if we can tell you just HOW MUCH we really really really appreciate hearing the truth. Really.

And, WOW! 671 entries??? I am so impressed with...well, you.

Wishing you good luck and a steady stream of coffee and chocolate.

Yay!

Also, I'm sorry, but I thought hotmail had screwed up so I resent the same query from my other address. If they both went through, you have only 670 real queries to wade through :D

Thank you so much for doing this. *braces self for crit with chainmail and helmet, visor down*

Thanks for the update and holding the contest. We so understand technology and its wonky ways. :)

Thank you for the update Suzie.

Like Leigh Ann said, this contest is a fantastic opportunity. With all the e-mail system difficulties and the sheer amount of entries it sounds like it'll be very time consuming, and you're an absolute star for giving us this chance. :)

Good luck everyone!

Wow! 671? I'm definitely impressed.

Also, as I'm one of the ones who missed out, I would like to take this opportunity to begin the persuasion. I just need to figure out how to squeeze one of those chai lattes through the internet. I'm working on it.

Congrats to whoever got the request!

Yay, this is so awesome of you. I imagine you'll be keeping busy for the next few days then lol I'm not sure if I missed it or not, but if you enjoy this process then I'll add my persuasive talents to Delia :0)What a great way to welcome you to a new agency!

That's great! Thanks for the update and for doing this contest. I know a lot of people were worried about the auto replies, myself included, so it is great to hear that everything is working out. :)

I'm not sure whether to admire you or send over a medicinal bottle of gin.... *grin*

Cyberspace ate my query! Sent it, verified by checking my "Sent" folder, headed to work. Surprised to later discover no record whatsoever. The universe is plotting against me. So please do this contest again.

Wow, so many queries...you're absolutely awesome, and let us know where we can send the caffeine donations in your choice of drink ^_^

Please be persuaded! I had to work the day you did this :(

Stephanie said...

So so cool!!!! Looking forward to reading your comments....and maybe you'll want to read my MS! :)

Love this contest- I hope mine went through and you might have gotten two of them, so that would take your query count down by one!

Kristi said...

Woohoo!

I hope for your sake that many of the 671 are duplicates. :)

Thanks for the awesome contest!

Mrs. So and So said...

Thank you so much for this contest. I am SOO looking forward to some feedback! I resent mine also from a different email address because I thought my work server might be blocking it, so I'm very sorry if you get duplicates. Congrats to the requestee.

Katie Dodge said...

Thanks for the update! Can't wait to hear your feedback. I'm so ready for the truth. :)

Matthew MacNish said...

Enjoy! I hope 1 in 100 makes the others worth it.

Pandora Swift said...

Well, you SAID to resubmit if we didn't get the autoreply confirmation, so... (I only sent it THREE times!!!!) Sorry. This was a terrific idea; THANK YOU for doing this!

Colin Smith said...

I also resent three times. If enough of us did that, then you may have a lot fewer queries to plow through! Let me add my thanks to you for doing this. :)

Diana Gettinger said...

You can add in my three submissions as well - yikes! So sorry to send three, but I was nervous that I missed the boat when I didn't receive the auto reply!

You're extremely generous to do this contest - thank you!

Kate Larkindale said...

Thanks for doing the contest! And what a fantastic response!

sheribomb said...

Thanks for doing this contest! I missed it this time, so I'll add myself to the list of those hoping to persuade you to do it again! :D

Robin Weeks said...

I, too, sent mine twice when I didn't get an auto-response. Soo looking forward to your comments! Thanks so much for doing this!

Hillsy said...

669.....I sent mine three times...=0)

And I echo everyone else; this is a real service to all of us!

Abigail Johnson said...

Two of those 671 emails are from me since I also resent once (from the same email). Hopefully you are able to filter out all the duplicates and whittle down that number to something slightly less insane :) I'll echo everyone else and say thank you so much for this contest (and to Lisa Desrochers for spreading the news).

Alex said...

I sent mine twice as well. I'm guessing your total count (dupes excluded) is probably around 435. Which holy mother of mystery is a whole lota whole lota.

This is everything awesome and I look forward to my critique!

Thanks!

Nathan Major said...

Wow...that's a substantial number of emails. Though I will admit two are mine; when I didn't get an auto-response I re-sent it, then figured something was wrong so I held back on #3. :)
I wish you the best of luck (and lots of caffeine) to handle all these queries. And thanks so much for doing this!

Cynthia Loveland said...

I missed this contest by a hair so I'm hoping there will be another one soon. Congratulations to whomever got the request!

Empress Awesome said...

I feel silly about it now, but I sent my query 3 times (this was before I knew about the auto-responder being down, of course). So if you find 3 of the same query in your inbox please don't hate me for it :)

Rachael Harrie said...

Thanks so much for letting us know. May you eat lots of chocolate as you wade through our queries :)

Thanks for the feedback on my query. I appreciate your time and insight. And yes, I was part of the submit it twice gang.

TerriB said...

Okay, I TOTALLY need my agent to be someone crazy enough to get 671 entries and then say "I think I might do this again!" I love it!

prerna pickett said...

I might have sent mine twice as well when I didn't get an auto response. Glad it was broken and not because my e-mail failed me. That's one less for the count. And thank you for running this contest, you rock!

Cat said...

With so many queries (plus the regular stuff rolling in from now on) you can be persuaded to do it again? Either you're crazy or and agent worth having. :D

Thanks a ton for going to all that trouble just to make us feel better.
@Delia: BTW, I'll help with squeezing the chai latte through the Internet. There has to be a way...

Curtis said...

Sent mine twice. Sorry about that.

Jacci said...

Thrilled you did this contest. Even though aren't interested in mine, it was nice to finally get some feedback. I'm certainly hoping you'll give it another try. I would like the opportunity to revise and resubmit!

David said...

While you passed on my query, I feel that I learned something from "the truth." Bad news is far better than no news. If anything, the comments helped me understand the communication gaffe our queries have to bridge... It makes me think about the writers who have been discovered through ebooks. As a query process, I wonder to what degree ebooks will begin to yield agent representation?

L said...

Jacci & David: could you share with us when did you send your query?

I'm trying to figure out if Suzie didn't get to mine yet or if it never made it into her inbox in the first place...

And this is a great opportunity to thank Suzie again for having this great contest! Helping non-client aspiring authors is sooo nice of you. You ROCK!

Sophia Chang said...

Oh please please pleaaaaase have another contest! I tried so hard to make this one, but I happened to be moving the day before and had been up for about 36 hours straight. (West Coaster here)

Next time hopefully I'll be able to pull an all-nighter for that 6 a.m. contest call!

Arwen said...

Oh, my goodness, I feel so much better about my own neurosis -- I, too, sent mine in three times -- though I have deep sympathy for you having to plow through all the repeats. Look how anxious we all are! Thank you so much for doing this.

David said...

Sent my query within the first 2 mintues of the hour.

Oh, and I, too, meant to thank Suzie for her time, even if she passed. It's strangley empowering to try to connect the dots of agent understanding based on 250 words. If anything, it showed how hard an agent's job is... and with the increased selectivity set by the buckle down of publishers... that job is only getting harder.

Stephanie Garber said...

I know it's a little late, but thanks for the update Suzie!
And thank you again for this contest!

Now that I know the auto responder was broken, I feel terrible -I sent mine three times!

Jehhillenberg (J.E.) said...

Thanks for this opportunity! Thanks for the update!

Julianna Helms said...

Thank you so much! I didn't know the auto responder was broken, though, so I sent my twice. Sorry. :(

Five Random Things About Suzie

1. I drink so much orange soda, it's probably running through my veins. I've been known to go through a twelve pack of diet sunkist in a day.

2. I'm legitimately nocturnal (or a vampire). I will be so exhausted at two pm that I'm falling asleep standing up - it has happened before, at Six Flags no less - but as soon as the sun goes down I'm wide awake.

3. I have a gorgeous unused $6000 Reem Acra wedding dress hanging in my closet, and it showed up on my doorstep the same day my (now ex) fiance broke up with me. And thank God for that. I wouldn't have wanted to waste that dress on him.

4. Social anxiety plagues me daily. I write a script and practice in front of the mirror when I have to make a phone call, but most people who interact with me have no idea how nervous I am (or perhaps they lie) because I've worked so hard to try to overcome it.

5. I'm actually worried that I will never love my children (when I do have them in the far off future) as much as I love my dogs. I just like animals better than people - they're sweet and innocent and soft and furry - is that so wrong?
