The good news is that I've been working on some queries this weekend--among other things. I've requested a few manuscripts, and hopefully my feedback has been helpful.
The bad news is we're still having server problems. I've been sending emails from my personal address, which has been working, but it a little more time consuming.
I'd originally planned to try to get all these queries done by end of day tomorrow. I'm going to devote most of my day to queries tonight, but I might have to push back the deadline.
Also, and this is the real reason for the post, I've had a few emails bounce back. The error claims the email addresses have been "discontinued"--whatever that means--or are unavailable.
So k.powell@live.com and joshuaroots@yahoo.com, if you don't get a response it's because I can't reach you. Let me know if there's a better email to reach you via the comments and I'll send you my thoughts.

Five Random Things About Suzie
1. I drink so much orange soda, it's probably running through my veins. I've been known to go through a twelve pack of diet sunkist in a day.
2. I'm legitimately nocturnal (or a vampire). I will be so exhausted at two pm that I'm falling asleep standing up - it has happened before, at Six Flags no less - but as soon as the sun goes down I'm wide awake.
3. I have a gorgeous unused $6000 Reem Acra wedding dress hanging in my closet, and it showed up on my doorstep the same day my (now ex) fiance broke up with me. And thank God for that. I wouldn't have wanted to waste that dress on him.
4. Social anxiety plagues me daily. I write a script and practice in front of the mirror when I have to make a phone call, but most people who interact with me have no idea how nervous I am (or perhaps they lie) because I've worked so hard to try to overcome it.
5. I'm actually worried that I will never love my children (when I do have them in the far off future) as much as I love my dogs. I just like animals better than people - they're sweet and innocent and soft and furry - is that so wrong?

Go, Team Query Avalanche!
Thank you for the update. I continue to await my response... You are a trooper for pushing through all these challenges. May you be fortified with orange soda!
Just wanted to add my thanks to the long list. You're a star for doing this.
Thank you so much for doing this - your feedback on my query was truly invaluable and so very much appreciated!
Thanks so much for doing this for us Suzie, and particularly with all the hassles you're having. The internet, you've got to love it, right!
Rach
I think it's awesome you're doing this! Unfortunately I couldn't send mine in (stupid snow knocked out the power for several days).
Thanks for even doing this, Suzie! I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I understand the issues you've had and will be glad to get the query critique whenever you can. :)
I sent mine in but I only wrote 'query contest' in the subject, I forgot the yes, I can handle truth part. Does this disqualify me? If so, please run this contest again! And thanks for taking the time to do so.
Thanks for the update, and again for running this contest. I can't imagine trying to wade through that many queries in less than a week. Just take your time. Looking forward to your critique!
Hi, I saw on your regular publisher's page or somewhere connected to this that you will soon be back to taking regular queries as well as a few other agents. Is this true? Thanks!
I believe in the post where she announced this contest, she stated that she is taking regular queries again as of November 1st.
Thank you so much for the feedback. It is uberhelpful. I'm just terrible at writing queries -- they are not needed in Germany. We do something called an Expose and it resembles a synopsis but includes the characters motivations and backgrounds. It can be much longer than a query. So I'm struggling with it, and any help is appreciated.
Now, I'll rewrite query and re-check the story, then try you again. ;-)
Feedback? On queries? Oh, you sweet, sweet, SWeet agent.
Hoo-boy. I'm one of the "bouncer-backers." The better address is:
joshuajroots(at)yahoo(dot)com
Apologies for the speed bump and thank you for your insight.
Thanks for the great response and for doing the query contest.
Back to the query drawing board...
Just wanted to say thanks for your input on my query! Sad that you don't rep my style, because you rock. Thanks again for doing this contest. :-)
This is such a fabulous gift to us all!! Crossing fingers that mine got there okay. Never got the auto response after 2 tries...ahh, technology.
Awesome! Still haven't gotten mine back, but thanks for doing this! Best wishes as you try to finish them all!
Heard from Suzie. She said the good news was that she received my query...wah wah waaaah.
The bad news was that she is passing on my project. :'(
However, her comments (short, but effective) made me realize that my hook/plot was too obscure. I thought I was being clever by not giving too much away, hoping to pique her curiosity-- what actually ended up happening was that my hook was ineffective... and a big fish on my agent query list got away...! Live and learn... Thanks Suzie!
I know I already thanked you in advance, but I want to again express how grateful I am to you for critiquing my query. It's definitely helped me get it more focused. Your comments are GREATLY appreciated.
Hi!
I'm k.powell@live.com, but it's not ".com", it's ".ca".
Using k.powell@live.ca will work :)
Thank you, Suzie, for your critique of my query. I appreciate all the time and expertise you've given to all of us who entered your contest. Very helpful!
Anyone who's just recently received feedback know when in the hour they submitted theirs? Mine was pretty late and I'm feeling ridiculously impatient for advice right now : ) What an amazing opportunity,
thanks Suzie!
Katherine: I sent mine out later and barely got word back. Hang in there. 600 some odd queries is ridiculous!
And a big thanks to Suzie! I really appreciate the feedback :-). I can't believe that you're doing this, it's awesome!1
After writing hundreds of drafts, I can't even stand looking at my query anymore. So, thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart for your input. You are a ROCK STAR. Already adjusted my query with your feedback. :)
Only Suzie could make a rejection into such a cause for celebration that I had to blog about it. Yea, Suzie! I wish you many submissions that match your fondest wishes.
Got my email! Pass, but something to work on : ) So motivated, thanks Suzie!!!
Agreeing with everyone else's comments here. Getting feedback on one's query effort is invaluable, and I'm grateful to have instructions I can apply to my effort. Wonderful.
