Happy End of 2009

I can't believe how fast the year has flown by. But the holiday countdowns have already started. The lighting of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center is tonight, the School Library Journal has listed the Best Books of 2009. (Hate List and When You Reach Me just jumped higher on my TBR list.) And NYT just posted their 10 Best Books of 2009 list (and I can't wait to get my hands on Jeanette Walls' Half Broke Horses).

In honor of the blistery cold weather (keep in mind I spent 10 years living in Miami and San Diego) and the fact that 2009 was a better year for me than 2008 (cross your fingers, I want that upward trend to continue), here's my cold ninja picture from the streets of DC before Obama's inauguration.

Ummm ya look cold. Speaking of cold it is freezing down here. I know it is only 50 degrees but it keeps raining so it is that wet cold. Yuck Yuck. - Parajunkee

Heh heh, cute. Yeah, things are going to get much colder for you in the Northeast. A particular friend of mine is practically whining about the cold during SCBWI. Layer, layer, layer. :)

And happy end of the year to you!!

First - your hair is beautiful! I love it!!

You do look cold, I would think it would be hard to breathe with a ninja mask.

Are you sure you're not in Missouri because that's what I look like around winter time, too.

And um, hi, I am so jealous of your hair! So pretty!

I just had to say how much I LOVE the background on your blog! And, I live in Philly where we had the 7th warmest November on record. Just sayin'. ;-)

You look so cold! And I swear, 2009 wasn't 365 days long. The time goblins were at it again.

What you can't see all that well in the picture is that my eye lashes have frost on them.

Parajunkee - wet cold is the worst! Especially since my car has a leak in the weather stripping. Water comes in through the passenger door.

Kristin - Definitely layer, layer, layer :) And hot drinks and warm hats.

Ash - I'm so unbelievably jealous of your 70s weather!

Patti - Thanks. The ninja mask is actually a mask for people to wear when running in cold weather. I stole it that day from my sister's boyfriend who had it for his marathon training.

Cheryl & Amber - My hair and I have a love hate relationship. It has its own mind.

Debra - I live in Philly too, but I just can't handle the rain and the cold after 10 years in places where winter was 60 degrees.

Sarah - The Time Goblins strike again!

Five Random Things About Suzie

1. I drink so much orange soda, it's probably running through my veins. I've been known to go through a twelve pack of diet sunkist in a day.

2. I'm legitimately nocturnal (or a vampire). I will be so exhausted at two pm that I'm falling asleep standing up - it has happened before, at Six Flags no less - but as soon as the sun goes down I'm wide awake.

3. I have a gorgeous unused $6000 Reem Acra wedding dress hanging in my closet, and it showed up on my doorstep the same day my (now ex) fiance broke up with me. And thank God for that. I wouldn't have wanted to waste that dress on him.

4. Social anxiety plagues me daily. I write a script and practice in front of the mirror when I have to make a phone call, but most people who interact with me have no idea how nervous I am (or perhaps they lie) because I've worked so hard to try to overcome it.

5. I'm actually worried that I will never love my children (when I do have them in the far off future) as much as I love my dogs. I just like animals better than people - they're sweet and innocent and soft and furry - is that so wrong?
