Feel free to comment and add your own thoughts to First Page Shooter posts. Just keep in mind negative comments like "lame" or "I would never read this" will be deleted.
Also, please keep your comments on topic and about the post. Comments about how Joanna or I should be blogging tend to make us grouchy.

Five Random Things About Suzie
1. I drink so much orange soda, it's probably running through my veins. I've been known to go through a twelve pack of diet sunkist in a day.
2. I'm legitimately nocturnal (or a vampire). I will be so exhausted at two pm that I'm falling asleep standing up - it has happened before, at Six Flags no less - but as soon as the sun goes down I'm wide awake.
3. I have a gorgeous unused $6000 Reem Acra wedding dress hanging in my closet, and it showed up on my doorstep the same day my (now ex) fiance broke up with me. And thank God for that. I wouldn't have wanted to waste that dress on him.
4. Social anxiety plagues me daily. I write a script and practice in front of the mirror when I have to make a phone call, but most people who interact with me have no idea how nervous I am (or perhaps they lie) because I've worked so hard to try to overcome it.
5. I'm actually worried that I will never love my children (when I do have them in the far off future) as much as I love my dogs. I just like animals better than people - they're sweet and innocent and soft and furry - is that so wrong?

I love this idea! However, I write children's books. Any idea about where I could find a similar resource for my age group? Thanks! :)
Wow! This is a great opportunity. Thanks so much!
Can I ask a probably stupid question? When you say "word count" are you referring to the words of the sample (which should be around 250) or the word count of the manuscript? And if it's the manuscript, does that mean that you only want to see 250 words of a completed manuscript?
Thanks!
@mystery I only want to see 250 words. I recommend you finishing the ms first since this will be more helpful if you know you're not going to throw out these pages later. I would like to know the word count of your ms when you submit because then if your pages are good but your word count is off, I can let you know.
Gah! I couldn't find the side bar info earlier, so, of course, I screwed up my submission.

I hope it's okay that I resent per the specifications once I figured out where they were.
Can I submit a second entry? Thank you for the great opportunity either way!
I know my hotmail account normally goes to spam. So could you please check your spam?? I'm a real person, I swear!! (my gmail is my blog account and doesn't have my real name on it and...well, I haven't fixed it yet).
Can we submit less than 250 words?
Thank you for the opportunity! This is a wonderful blog.
@Josin L. McQuein
I totally did the same thing. Good to know I'm not the only one :)
@ Lynne and Josin: Ditto. OOPS!!
@Becky, @Lynne @Josin
I'm with ya. I came over off a tweet and jumped the gun too.
@Kristen J--If you're writing middle grade or YA, we can look at that. For picture books or chapter books, you'll have to google around.
@Josin @Lynn(e) and @Becky and @sbjames--Don't worry! I totally kept that in mind that early submission might have missed the guidelines and/or resent.
@Justin--You're welcome to resubmit, but keep in mind at the end of day one I had over 330 submissions. Not every first page is going to get critiqued.
@erica and christy--spam checked. Don't worry.
@Jennifer--sure.
Oops! I did the same as @Josin @Lynn(e) and @Becky and @sbjames. Sorry. Just resent. Thanks for the opportunity.
Joanna
So, what happens next? (Really excited to see this in action!)
Over 300 the first day? Yikes!
Thanks so much for doing this -
Jodi
I have a question... once our first page has been critiqued, are we allowed to revise and resend? I know you guys are probably super busy already, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's a no, but just wondering. :)
@Miranda--Yes!
Do we put the title/word count/genre info at the start? Should we include a query, or just the info and the first 250?
@Ms. Snip--Yes, that'd be great!
How does one find the site where you've posted the latest excerpts and their critiques?
I sent an email with my first page, and would like to check if it gets selected.
Thanks for doing this...

I submitted my first page shooter back in april, and while I'm really enjoying the posts, I no longer want mine to be considered. Are we allowed to retract our submissions? I know you already have hundreds to consider.
I also submitted mine in April, and since rewrote the opening and moved the information in the original opening paragraphs to later in the first chapter. Could we resubmit, just in case ours are among those that are chosen?
